Islesboro is reached by public ferry that leaves Lincolnville hourly in the summer months. Lincolnville is 10 miles, or about 15 minutes, south of Belfast; and 6 miles, or about 10 minutes, north of Camden. Camden, arguably Maine's finest harbor town, is minutes north of Rockland, home of the Farnsworth Museum, a little known treasure showcasing the Wyeth family artists, among other New England and American greats. The red bubble marks the location of Crow's Nest Cottage - - "up island," on Meadow Pond Road.

You can get to Lincolnville to catch the ferry from either Camden or Belfast. In mid-summer, RT 1 can get VERY busy and slow... Look for the backroads to Lincolnville for a nice, scenic option.

CATCHING THE FERRY

The ferry ride across Penobscot Bay takes a quick 20 minutes across a spectacular stretch of water. Before you know it, you're on the island.
